Vectors of rural development in the North-Eastern Region of Romania (3rd edition). Sustainable agri-food systems

On October 12, 2023, the scientific session Vectors of rural development in the North-Eastern Region of Romania (3rd edition) took place with the theme Sustainable agri-food systems. The session was organized within the framework of the Iași Academic Days, XXXVIII edition, by the Rural Economy Collective of the “Gh. Zane” Institute of Economic and Social Research Iași and by researchers from the Institute of Agrarian Economics (I.N.C.E.) Bucharest.

In recent decades, concerns aimed at the sustainable development of society have intensified, by integrating environmental protection requirements in all areas of activity, including agricultural and food production. In this context, global agri-food systems are also undergoing a radical change, generated by the implications of the need for rational use of resources and the impact of agricultural practices on the environment. In this context, during the scientific session, topics were debated regarding the promotion of sustainable agricultural production, ensuring access to healthy and nutritious food, the resources necessary for the production, processing and distribution of food products, the transformation of agri-food systems through knowledge communities, sustainable integration in agri-food value chains, respectively the implications of using new cutting-edge technologies in the development of the rural economy, etc.
