ICES-1 PROGRAM: FUNDAMENTAL INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIAL VALUESProgram Objective: Investigating the content, foundations and limits of fundamental individual and social values (such as justice, truth, freedom, democracy, community, solidarity, stability, utility or the rule of law) and the circumstances, level and prospects of their implementation in Romanian society.Hypotheses/Premises: The investigation of fundamental individual and social values is a priority task of the humanities (and, at the same time, of the social, political, legal or economic sciences). The correct and complete understanding of these values is both a desirable goal in itself and an indispensable means for achieving other objectives of cardinal relevance, such as moral behavior, a praiseworthy, fulfilled and flourishing life, adequate social coexistence, etc. None of the fundamental projects of the contemporary world, such as the achievement of “good societies”, sustainable economic growth, sustainable development, the creation of “knowledge-based societies” or/and “information societies”, the consolidation of the European Union or the expansion and intensification of globalization, can be successfully completed without the appropriate interpretation and implementation of values such as justice, equity, freedom, democracy, community, solidarity, stability, tolerance, utility, the rule of law, moral goodness, truth, knowledge, etc. ICES-1 Research Projects ICES-2 PROGRAM: FUNDAMENTAL THEMES AND IDEAS IN PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATIONAL SCIENCESProgram Objective: Investigating concepts and theories in psychology and educational sciences with broad academic importance and utility for personal and social development.Hypotheses/Premises: To the extent that it stimulates, supports and optimizes human potential, enhances the quality of life and contributes to the achievement of individual and social goals and aspirations, development is one of the most important goals worth pursuing in personal and social life. Research in the fields of psychology and educational sciences, as well as related disciplines (communication sciences, neuroscience, cognitive sciences, etc.), can and must fundamentally contribute to clarifying the mechanisms of development and to the efficient implementation of specific techniques and methods. ICES-2 Research Projects ICES-3 PROGRAM: INDIVIDUAL, CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN THE ERA OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIESProgram Objective: Investigating the main challenges, benefits, trends, processes and ideological, cultural and social transformations specific to the era of digital technologies, in order to understand them as adequately as possible and to identify the best policies or strategies to solve/improve/capitalize on them.Hypotheses/Premises: The digital revolution is an emblematic phenomenon of contemporary society. It involves both a series of benefits and a series of challenges, trends, processes and ideological, cultural and social transformations. Researching these dimensions and coordinates of the digital revolution is useful both for the adequate understanding of contemporary society and other phenomena characteristic of it (such as socio-economic integration/globalization), and for identifying the best policies or strategies for solving/improving/capitalizing on the challenges/disadvantages/benefits of the digital revolution. ICES-3 Research Projects ICES-4 PROGRAM: CURRENT TRENDS IN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL THEORY AND PRACTICEProgram Objective: Studying current economic and social theories and phenomena, with major relevance for economic growth and social development, in order to formulate recommendations based on scientific results for policymakers and specialists in the development, implementation and evaluation of public policies.Hypotheses/Premises: Sustainable economic growth and sustainable social development require public decisions, policies and strategies based on scientific results. Economic scientists have a professional and moral obligation to systematically study current theories and phenomena with major relevance for economic growth and social development and to provide recommendations based on scientific results for policymakers and specialists in the development, implementation and evaluation of public policies. ICES-4 Research Projects ICES-5 PROGRAM: RURAL SPACE DEVELOPMENT IN THE NORTH-EAST REGION OF ROMANIAProgram Objective: Researching the realities of the rural space in the North-East Region of Romania, both in the current context and from a historical perspective, in order to identify optimal policies and strategies for compatibility with the principles, values and developments of the rural space of the European Union (such as sustainable development, increased quality of life, social inclusion, equal opportunities, etc.).Hypotheses/Premises: The current socio-economic issues of rural areas are insufficiently studied. The phenomenological and structural diversity of the rural environment, the changes that the Romanian village is going through, as well as its development possibilities are topics whose research is imperative, especially given that the Romanian rural area is characterized by realities such as poverty, social exclusion, gender inequality, the weak development of social economy organizations with an impact on agrarian structures or the inadequate use of natural resources. Sustainable rural development and the relaunch of the social, economic and spiritual life of the Romanian village in accordance with the values and developments of the rural area of the European Union constitute an indispensable component of the economic, cultural and political development of Romanian society. Achieving the objective of sustainable rural development requires the elaboration and implementation of scientifically well-founded principles, strategies and development directions. ICES-5 Research Projects ICES-6 PROGRAM: FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEMS OF LEGAL SCIENCESProgram Objective: Disciplinary, multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary investigation of priority issues in public law (especially issues concerning the interpretation and application of legal norms or ways of adapting the legal system to the realities of contemporary social relations and issues specific to international law).Hypotheses/Premises: Two of the most important problems of public law concern the interpretation and application of legal norms and the ways of adapting the legal system to the realities of contemporary social relations. Research on these topics is vital for achieving objectives such as the elimination/improvement of contradictory judicial practice or the resolution of litigious legal relations in accordance with the principle of definitive resolution of the conflict between the parties, with the idea of justice and with the principle of correspondence with the truth. At the same time, globalization, regionalization and the incidence of phenomena or events such as genocide, ethnic cleansing or new forms of terrorism make it imperative to research international law issues such as international/global responsibility and justice. Investigating these issues requires both research specific to public law and research on topics from related fields (such as social sciences, philosophy of law or political philosophy).
